Samuel Arthur Eastham12 (4/_/1900, Arkansas – 9/29/1932, Roswell, New Mexico) Buried in South Park Cemetery, Roswell, New Mexico. Arthur was the son of Milliner Charles and Annie Eastham. With his father Charlie’s financial assistance, he built a log home on Caney Creek just next to the Caney Creek Saw Mill on one corner of Charlie’s farm. He married Mabel Naoma Conaway. Arthur died of tuberculosis when he was only 32 years old.

Together they bore four children:
i Calvin Leo Eastham, Sr.13
ii Beulah Coweta Eastham Bishop13
iii Arnold Eastham13
iv Arthur Ray Eastham13
Arthur served in the Navy. Mary Lou (Eastham) Graham remembers, “he used to bring candy bars home for us kids.” After the war, he and Mabel moved back to Big Creek near Nowata. Arthur died of cancer of the stomach when he was only 32 years old. He and Mabel had moved to New Mexico because the doctors thought he had tuberculosis and the climate and clean air there were conducive to proper healing of the disease.
Tuberculosis was the second biggest killer of Americans at the time, following pneumonia and influenza, but because of the lack of knowledge and training among doctors at the time, misdiagnosis was extremely common. When Arthur died, nearly all the Easthams gave up smoking, refusing to let any more of their numbers die so needlessly.
After Arthur’s death, Mabel and the children moved in with Marvin Eastham and his family for a few years before Mabel met and married Robert Dearman in 1942.
Arthur’s two surviving children attended school at Union Grove over by Bunch, OK, and went to high school at Bagley High in Tahlequah, OK.

Kathe knew she was going to be a nurse from the time she was a child. She was helping her “Popaw” Rob apply a bandage when he asked her if she were going to be his nurse when she grew up. From that time she knew this was her calling. She says she has been a nurse almost thirty-five years, and has never regretted it. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Oklahoma.
When she is not at her post as Disease Management Coordinator for the Oklahoma Health Care Authority, she sews, makes beaded necklaces, sings, and works with children at a mental health facility.
She has three children.
